Tory Ashby

Marketing & Operations Director at Oliver Burns Studio

Tory Ashby is a shining example of a rising star in the luxury property industry. Nominated by Sharon Lillywhite, over the past year since Tory joined Oliver Burns Studio, she has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to the business. Her work ethic is unparalleled, effortlessly balancing the demands of her role with the responsibilities of motherhood, all while maintaining a cheerful disposition.

Hi Tory, so great to have you here. Please could you tell us about your proudest career moment so far?

There have been a few highlights but the most recent and most rewarding was delivering the re-brand and new website for Oliver Burns Studio in my first year with the company. I really understood what Sharon was trying to achieve and when we got Construct on board it all just came together. Hard work but so rewarding!

Have you faced moments of doubt in your career, and how did you overcome them?

Of course! I think the moment you feel you know it all is when you have a problem. For me it has always been about communicating concerns and getting the team on board to help work it out. Once you realise you are not working alone your confidence builds. I have also been lucky to have the most wonderful mentors throughout my career, I continue to seek their advise and it has helped me hone my own management style.

What do you think are the main challenges women face in the luxury property industry, and how can they be addressed?

There is no doubt that the industry is traditionally very male dominated but that is beginning to change. I have never felt or been made to feel unwelcome in the industry and I think that is important to recognise. What is exciting is that there are some really impressive businesses that are owned or run by women that are starting to get some recognition. I hope to see improvements in the gender pay gap, pay should always be ranked on performance.

Who has been your biggest supporter, and how have they empowered you?

I am incredibly lucky to have always had the full support of my parents, they have a get up and get on attitude which they instilled in me! It has been a great asset throughout my career.

Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you give to young women starting their careers?

Attitude is everything, be the person who gets things done and you will go far.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future?

I am so excited about what we are doing at Oliver Burns Studio. Sharon has such a strong vision and I am very much enjoying being part of her team. I feel the stars have aligned with this role.
