Hi Dave, please tell us a little about Lucid Foreign Exchange and the kind of work you focus on.

That's a bold position to take in an industry not known for putting clients first. What inspired you to start the business?
To change the face of a pushy and unscrupulous industry. The FX world has long been associated with hard sells and brokers who put themselves first. I wanted to build something that operated completely differently — which meant walking away from the City and the Finance Bro culture that comes with it. Executing my first trade for my own business remains one of my proudest career moments.
And when you looked at the market, what gap were you seeing that needed to be filled?
HNW individuals are either at the mercy of pushy brokers or expensive banks. Neither serves them well when it comes to international transactions. Lucid Foreign Exchange works on a select basis, with a sole focus on client outcome rather than our own.
So the work is very much about being present and responsive. What does a typical day actually look like for you?
Managing market movements and relaying valuable information back to clients so they can make better decisions. Markets move constantly — the value I add is making sure clients understand what that means for them in real time.
Building something that goes against the grain of an entire industry doesn't come without difficulty. What has been the greatest challenge you've faced?
Client acquisition, because of the reputation of the FX industry. Through patience and aligning with the right networks, we've built a brand that is now known for expertise and client focus — not KPIs and revenue. But it doesn't happen overnight.
And on the other side of that, what have been the highlights?
The freedom to not chase financial targets, but to grow a brand and a reputation instead.
That sense of operating on your own terms comes through clearly. Who or what inspires you?
Anyone that pushes back on universally accepted negative industry norms.
It sounds like patience and conviction are at the heart of everything. What advice would you give to someone looking to establish themselves as a leader in this space?
Be patient, stick to your vision and don't deviate just to drive revenue. It takes longer, but it's worth it.
