Lucy Clifford

Associate Project Manager at Accouter Design

Lucy Clifford is a shining example of a rising star in the luxury property industry. Nominated by Esra Kumbasar, Design Director at Accouter Design, Lucy has seamlessly integrated into our team in just over a year, fully embracing her role with enthusiasm. Her dedication to understanding the intricacies of the business and mastering new terminology is commendable. Notably, she has taken the initiative to further her own education, generously sharing her newfound knowledge with the team. Lucy has not only fulfilled a necessary role but has made it uniquely her own. We eagerly anticipate her future in mentoring and leading her own team.

Hi Lucy so great to have you here. Please could you tell us about your proudest career moment so far?

Executing and achieving high standards within my role, supporting my team and maintaining strong relationships between us and our clients is paramount to what I do and this is what makes me proud on a day to day basis.

Have you faced moments of doubt in your career, and how did you overcome them?

The more knowledge I gain coupled with the recognition for my achievements, always spurs me on to and the more confident I feel.

What do you think are the main challenges women face in the luxury property industry, and how can they be addressed?

The industry has in previous years been dominated by male figures. However, I am seeing a rapid shift in people's attitudes in which females are being empowered within this environment. Fundamentally, companies need to acknowledge and be educated on understanding the female psyche within the property industry. Ensuring that their success and career path is valued and shared amongst colleagues. I believe mentoring, sharing positive stories and attending support networks are key tools to raising more awareness and promoting new cultures and values for women's contributions in the industry, that will be respected throughout, making it more a more equal playing field.

Who has been your biggest supporter, and how have they empowered you?

My husband has to be my biggest supporter. His positive attitude to life, motivation and dedication to achieve the best outcome both in the work place and in our personal life inspires me immensely. He has always believed in me and takes care in listening and offering such constructive advice when I have been met with challenging decisions in my career or when I have doubted myself. I really could not be more grateful for his unwavering support and continued words of encouragement. As I watch him grow in his career, I take great pride and aspire to want to be as successful as him. He has taught me so much over the years to gain more confidence and self belief in what I do and I cannot thank him enough for being my biggest cheerleader.

Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you give to young women starting their careers?

My biggest advice to young women is to learn to believe in yourself. Your voice is so important so don't be afraid to use it and share your values and opinions. This way, you will only grow in more confidence and reassurance which in time will motivate you to spur you onto success. Trust in your gut and don’t ever be afraid to ask questions - knowledge is power.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future?

As I am embark on my new exciting chapter becoming a Mummy next month to our first baby, I hope I can show my dedication and commitment to both my role as a mother but also championing women in the work place too. By providing mentorship to my team and piers alike, I hope I can achieve being a boss in the work place as well as at home. I would like to ensure more support and access to opportunities for the future generations and allow all women to show off their talents. On a personal level, I would like to continue to develop my own career goals once I return to work and look forward to delivering fantastic new projects alongside my team at Accouter Design and being a great leader.
