Poggenpohl on Partnerships: Getting Collaboration Right in Luxury Kitchen Design

We are delighted to feature LPF member Poggenpohl, a renowned name in luxury kitchen design, in this latest Industry Insights article. Drawing on their extensive experience, Poggenpohl explores how the modern kitchen has evolved into a central expression of lifestyle and design intent. The article highlights the importance of thoughtful collaboration between kitchen specialists and interior designers, and how truly exceptional spaces are created when form, function, and personalisation come together seamlessly.

In the premium home design market, the kitchen has evolved far beyond its traditional role. It’s no longer just the place where meals are prepared. Today, it’s where families gather, guests are entertained, and personal taste is expressed. For luxury kitchen brands and interior designers alike, this shift has created both opportunities and new expectations.

High quality CGI visuals are created, to be able to fully show the end consumer the overall aesthetic for the project. Colours, tones and textures can be paired, ensuring that the Poggenpohl kitchen perfectly marries with the rest of the home

Increasingly, clients aren’t simply buying kitchen furniture, but investing in a lifestyle statement. They want intelligent design that connects with the rest of the home, technology that enhances functionality without disrupting aesthetics, and a process that feels as considered as the end result. So what does that mean for professionals on the supply and design side, and how do we ensure expectations are met or managed?

Clients at the higher end of the market expect their kitchen brand to think beyond cabinetry and appliances. What they’re really looking for is cohesion—spatial and aesthetic. It’s not just about how the kitchen looks on completion day; it’s about how it feels to live in every day, and how it complements the way they move through their home.

Hill House Interiors have become a long-time customer for the team at Poggenpohl Wigmore Street, where a positive working relationship ensures all requirements are met for both them and the client

This means that the most successful kitchen brands today are those offering a more holistic service. At Poggenpohl, we curate materials, develop custom solutions, consider adjacent zones (dining, utility, even living areas), and help clients make choices that will stand the test of time. The kitchen is now part of a larger design story, and brands must be prepared to contribute meaningfully to that narrative to create a cohesive design.

The requirements of colours, textures or even unique shapes is paramount when working with interior design firms, to be able to meet the expectations of both designer and home owner. Poggenpohl has an extensive range of door materials and colours, a good example of this are the aluminium door  collection, becoming increasingly popular due to the practicalities of a metal finish, while paired with such subtle metallic tones. Working alongside a plethora of stone suppliers, as well as furniture fabricators and metal working companies  ensures the brand can work to source bespoke solutions for every eventuality.

Design trends are always part of the conversation, but clients are becoming more discerning. They’re less interested in gimmicks and more focused on enduring quality, intelligent functionality, and personal relevance. The role of the professional is to help separate what is meaningful from trends, ensuring clients aren’t left with a look that becomes quickly dated.

From a brand or designer perspective, this means not simply responding to trends, but interpreting them through the lens of the client’s lifestyle. A fluted wood finish may be in fashion, but does it suit the tone of the home? Is the client genuinely drawn to that handleless look, or are they feeling pressure to “keep up”? These are the kinds of strategic conversations that define successful kitchen projects—and why expert input is so valuable.

One of the more interesting dynamics in today’s kitchen projects is the evolving role of the interior designer. Some clients come with their own designer in place. Others rely entirely on the kitchen company to provide that vision. And sometimes, the best results come from a partnership between the two. This collaboration can be powerful—but it requires clarity. Who leads the project direction? Who’s responsible for spatial planning, finish choices, technical integration? When the boundaries blur, so can the efficiency and creativity of the project. Successful partnerships between kitchen brands and independent designers hinge on mutual respect and clear communication from the outset, and this is something we pride ourselves on at Poggenpohl, having built lasting relationships with interior design and architectural firms alike over many years.

Poggenpohl recently undertook a project with Golden Mean Designs, where both teams collaborated to create this beautiful space

Designers bring deep understanding of the client’s broader home and lifestyle; kitchen brands bring product expertise, technical knowledge, and often a sharper focus on workflow and utility. When those strengths are allowed to complement rather than compete, the client gets the best of both worlds.

Ultimately, what clients are buying is not just a kitchen, or even just a design. They’re investing in their home - and expecting it to return that value emotionally and functionally. For the professionals involved, that means the work has to go deeper than trend-following or box-ticking.

Creating a space that adds value means understanding how the client lives, how they want to feel in their space, and how the kitchen integrates into their long-term vision for their home. That kind of insight doesn’t happen by accident, but from thoughtful design leadership, strong collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Working with design consultancy, SNAS, this kitchen was created for a client with exacting standards

Today’s kitchen is no longer a standalone project. It’s a deeply personal, highly considered part of a client’s lifestyle, and increasingly, clients are expecting the professionals they hire to reflect that. For kitchen brands and designers alike, the challenge is clear: go beyond the expected, think beyond the furniture, and deliver a space that doesn’t just look good, but lives well.
